A Place For You!

We are a group of followers of Jesus who meet in a small rural chapel in Westport, MA. Whether you would like to connect while visiting for the summer or looking for a year-round fellowship, you’re welcome to join us as we learn what it means to love God, love others, and make disciples.

Worship Times

You’re invited!

Sunday morning worship at 9:30am

Our morning worship experience is an hour of interactive worship, learning, and fellowship where you are invited to be yourself as we praise God, experience God’s Word, connect with God’s people, enjoy all that God has created, and work to respond to God’s call in our lives. There is a separate Learning Time for children and youth.

sunday evening vespers at 7pm

(April — September)

Our evening vesper worship service is the “bookend” to the morning service. This service is more reflective with responsive readings, hymns, periods of silence, and a brief message.

Mission Statement

It is our mission to live, worship, witness and serve in the love and grace of God so that all may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God; and living with Him in the fellowship of God’s people, all may experience abundant and eternal life.

our history

The Acoaxet Chapel got its start in the 1840’s when area families started meeting for services and fellowship. In 1846, headed by Frank Howland, the Acoaxet Free Chapel Association was formed. The Association purchased a one-half acre lot from Gideon B. Peckham for $435 and ground was broken on January 23, 1872 for the Chapel. The cost at the time was $1317.04 to build the 30 by 40 foot Chapel. Approximately ten years later, the Chapel burned to the ground under “mysterious circumstances”. The Chapel rebuilt in 1882 to the original specifications. The original carriage house was converted into a building in the 1920’s and is used for suppers, Sunday School, and meetings.

THE CHAPEL BY THE ROADSIDE

BY GERTRUDE MAGNUSKI

There's a little chapel by the roadside,
And every time I passed that way,
I had the strangest feeling - like someone calling,
"Come in, my child, and pray."

As usual I was in a hurry
I had so many errands to do.
But I said to myself - sometime I'll stop;
And I really meant it too!

It was a beautiful April evening,
The chapel doors were open wide
Again, I had that urgent feeling,
So I stopped and went inside!

That was the night I found my Savior!
That was the night I found my Lord!
That was the night my life changed forever!
That was the night I accepted God!
